Updated Rules For Gruha Jyothi Scheme: Eligibility Criteria

To ensure the right beneficiaries get the benefits, certain conditions have been put in place to get the benefit of the 200 units of free electricity scheme nothing but the Gruhalakshmi Scheme.

First of all, as declared only candidates with white ration cards are eligible for this scheme. Not only that, beneficiaries must and should undergo Aadhaar verification as it was made mandatory by the Telangana Electricity Department. A recent notification has highlighted the importance of Aadhaar validation or Aadhaar Authentication for registration under the free electricity scheme. There is another requirement that beneficiaries need to fulfill, they need to link their ration cards with Aadhaar cards.

The Gruha Jyothi scheme applies to households with a single meter only. Tenants, those residing in rented accommodations are also eligible for the scheme. It’s important to note that this scheme does not apply if your electricity consumption is more than 200 units. Candidates who have electricity bill arrears or who haven’t paid their electricity bill for the past two months will not be eligible for the scheme. Furthermore, the annual electricity consumption of the household should not be more than 2,181 units in the year 2022-2023.

How Total Electricity Consumption of the Household is Calculated For Gruha Jyothi Scheme?

Consider you have a household that consumes less than 200 units of electricity per month on average. The government will pay for what you use. Suppose you have used more than 200 units, for example, 250 units in a month, then the excess units above 200, which is 50 units in this case, are not charged immediately. Instead, this excess is divided for 12 months in a year, which means it’s divided into smaller portions. You might pay for 4 or 5 units extra each month for the next 12 months or the extra units may charged accordingly as per the government rules. This method helps in managing your electricity bills.

Beneficiaries are identified for free electricity from Meter reading staff, they check based on the Candidate’s linkage of ration cards, Aadhaar cards, and mobile numbers to meter readings.
