New Aadhaar update: Aadhaar Card Disclaimer

The Aadhaar card contains a disclaimer stating, “A proof of Identity, not of citizenship or date of birth.” This disclaimer explicitly instructs all government organizations and departments not to accept Aadhaar as evidence of citizenship or date of birth.

Recently government has changed rules for Aadhaar enrolment and update rules. So at the same time these rules will also be implemented

However, it’s important that the Election Commission of India continues to accept Aadhaar as proof of date of birth for age verification in the context of voting. Given the recent clarifications by the government, there may be forthcoming announcements regarding new age verification methods for voting. Aadhaar cards also include a warning to authenticate them through UIDAI and the QR code on the back of the card.

In line with the disclaimer imprinted on Aadhaar cards and their digital copies, the 12-digit Aadhaar number serves as proof of uniqueness and residence. Government agencies that rely on Aadhaar as standalone proof for various purposes are urged to take note of these New Aadhaar update rules.

The decision to discontinue the use of Aadhaar as proof of age was initiated long time ago, as the date of birth on Aadhaar is based on the documents submitted by the applicant. The recent judgment by the Bombay High Court in December last month has cited this change in rules.
